The English Wine Centre
→ Web Design & Authoring
The English Wine Centre is a good example of a 'brochure' website (view online at www.englishwine.co.uk). This is a site which only requires occasional updates, in this case, just a couple of times a year. In this sense the site acts like an online magazine for new visitors and customers to surf through. This is typically advantageous for small to medium size companies who want a web presence, but are not generating fresh content on a daily or weekly basis.
A benefit of such a site is that design and authoring costs are much lower as there is no costly Content Management System (CMS) to implement. The updates are all undertaken by myself, the designer – significantly less expensive for occasional work.
Another great benefit is that such a site can be designed 'pixel-perfect'. Each page is tailor-made by the designer and so aesthetic standards are kept to the highest standard. In addition this approach lends itself to creativity in a way that a CMS site does not. A CMS website requires a template-driven approach, and so is more restrictive in nature.
